Tucson is the county seat of Pima County, Arizona, and has a population of just over 525,000 people, putting it #32 on the list of the most populous cities in the United States. During the Spanish conquest of the southwest, many new settlements began erupting around modern-day Tucson; the city itself was founded around 1700, when a new Spanish fort was erected and a town began to form around it. By the turn of the 20th century, over 7,000 people were living in the city, and during the First World War it was the home of many respiratory care facilities for WWI veterans who had been exposed to chemicals during the war. Because of this, the city’s population began to swell, and it kept expanding until, in 2006, the county of Pima passed the one million people mark, and the city proper passed 500,000.

However, this has been slow in the making, mainly due to the fact that the city is already facing a huge problem with the water supply, and many golf courses and other municipal parks have turned toward using reclaimed water as their source of water. More and more are using this recycled method, and hopefully sometime soon solar power will take hold and begin to be used throughout the city.
The climate of the city is very arid, with hot temperatures akin to Phoenix (typically over 100 during the summer, and typically never less than 60 during the winter), and indeed most other cities in the state of Arizona. The city is currently undergoing urban renewal projects, specifically in the downtown region, aimed at updating the city and making it look better for tourists and other visitors.
