Cedar Rapids is the second largest city in Iowa and is the county seat of Linn County. It was originally named Columbus by Shepherd, but was renamed when the town was incorporated in 1849. During 2008, over 300 families were displaced when the banks of the Cedar River rose to 31.2 ft (a record-setting depth) and flooded the city.
