Enterprise is a city in both Coffee and Dale County, Alabama. According to the official US Census estimate conducted in 2006 the population of the city was over 23,000. It is just outside of Fort Rucker, a local army base, and it is a part of the Enterprise-Ozark Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is a part of the much larger Dothan-Enterprise-Ozark Combined Statistical Area.
It was settled in 1881, though it wasn’t incorporated as a city until 1896, when the population was just 250 residents. It grew on the back of cotton until boll weevils destroyed much of the crops in the early 20th century; since then, the local economy has diversified, with today’s economy based largely on peanuts.
