It was named after North Carolina statesman Nathaniel Macon, and has been the seat of Bibb County since its incorporation in 1822. During the Civil War, Macon served as the official armory of the Confederacy and despite this was spared on Sherman\’s March to the Sea, which occurred in 1864, and today the city is a wonderful place to live with many tourist sites, colleges and museums to visit.
